Yes, an elephant ride with kids is easy to plan in Jaipur. At Elefriendride, children aged 2 and above can ride, both at Amber Fort and at our sanctuary, always with an adult and an experienced mahout.
Here is how the two rides compare for families, how many people can sit on one elephant, and simple tips to keep the day safe and fun.
Elephant Ride with Kids: Quick Facts
- Minimum age: 2 years, for both rides.
- Weight limit: none.
- Amber Fort ride: 2 adults per elephant, about 15 to 20 minutes, ₹2,500 per elephant, booked on the spot.
- Sanctuary safari: 2 adults and 1 child per elephant, about 30 to 35 minutes, included in the sanctuary experience.
- Who guides: each elephant has its own mahout, who stays with it around the clock.
Amber Fort Ride or Sanctuary Safari: Which Suits Families?
Sanctuary safari: usually the better choice for families. Two adults and one child can ride together, the pace is slow, and the safari is part of a longer visit with feeding and painting.
Amber Fort ride: a short, classic ride up to the fort for 2 adults per elephant; children aged 2 and above can ride.
The Amber Fort ride runs only in the morning: 7:00 to 10:30 AM in the summer season and 8:00 to 11:30 AM in the winter season.
Many families do both: the Amber Fort ride early, then the sanctuary later in the day. Read our elephant safari vs elephant ride guide for a full comparison.
Safety Tips for Children
- Keep your child seated between or beside an adult, and follow the mahout's seating instructions.
- Hold on to the seat or rail with both hands for the whole ride.
- Stay calm and speak softly; elephants are gentle but very large.
- Do not let children wave food, toys or bright objects near the elephant.
- Put phones and cameras on a strap, so nothing falls.
- Wash hands after touching the elephants.
Is Your Child Ready to Ride?
Some children are excited straight away, and some need a little time. A good way to start is with feeding at the sanctuary, so your child meets the elephant from the ground first.
If your child is unsure, let them watch another ride before deciding. There is no need to rush; meeting and feeding the elephants is a great experience on its own.
The Best Time of Day for Families
Early morning: cooler air, fresher children and quieter surroundings. This is the best time for the Amber Fort ride, which runs only in the morning.
Late morning: a good time to move on to the sanctuary for feeding, painting and the safari.
Afternoon: fine in winter at the sanctuary, which is open until 6:00 PM. In hot months, keep afternoons for rest. See our best time for an elephant ride guide.
What to Pack for Kids
- Sun hats, sunscreen and water.
- Comfortable clothes and closed shoes.
- A change of clothes in bathing season, from March to October.
- Wet wipes and a small snack for after the ride.
About Our Elephants
Only some of our younger, fitter elephants give rides at Amber Fort. Each elephant works only 3 to 4 hours a day, and a vet checks every elephant once a month.

Plan Your Family Elephant Day
Our sanctuary is 10 to 15 km from Jaipur city centre and open every day from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. A visit lasts 2 to 4 hours and costs ₹2,500 to ₹5,500 per person, with the safari included.
