Yes, a Ranthambore tiger safari from Jaipur is easy to plan. Ranthambore National Park is about 180 km from Jaipur, so you can go and come back in one long day, or stay a night and enjoy two safaris.
At Elefriendride, we plan the full trip from Jaipur with a car and a guide, in a Gypsy or a Canter, as a same-day trip or with a night in Ranthambore. Here is everything you need to know before you go.
Ranthambore Safari at a Glance
- Distance: about 180 km from Jaipur, near the town of Sawai Madhopur.
- Safari shifts: two a day, early morning and afternoon.
- Safari length: about 3 to 3.5 hours per shift.
- Vehicles: Gypsy (6 seats) or Canter (20 seats).
- Zones: the park has 10 safari zones; each safari stays in one zone.
- Main season: October to June.
How to Get From Jaipur to Ranthambore
By car: the easiest choice. The drive is around 4 hours, depending on traffic and stops, and lets you reach the park in time for your safari shift.
By train: trains run from Jaipur to Sawai Madhopur, the nearest station. You then need local transport to the park gate, so timing is tighter.
With our full trip, your car and guide travel with you from Jaipur, so you do not need to plan any connections.
Same Day or Overnight?
Same-day trip: best if you are short on time. You leave Jaipur early, join one safari and return in the evening. It is a long but rewarding day.
Stay a night: best for wildlife lovers. You can join an afternoon safari and the next morning's safari, which gives you two chances to spot a tiger.
We plan the trip either way, based on your dates and how much time you have.
Gypsy or Canter: Which Should You Choose?
Gypsy: a small open jeep with 6 seats. It feels more private and moves easily on narrow tracks. Ideal for couples, families and photographers.
Canter: a larger open vehicle with 20 seats, shared with other travellers. It suits bigger groups and travellers who do not mind a busier ride.
We arrange both, so tell us your group size and we will suggest the right one.
Safari Shifts and Timings
There are two safaris a day: one in the early morning and one in the afternoon. Each lasts about 3 to 3.5 hours.
Exact start times change with the season, as the days get shorter or longer. We confirm your shift time when you book.
Morning or afternoon? Mornings are cooler and calm, while afternoons offer warm light. Both shifts give you a fair chance of seeing wildlife.
Safari Zones and Tiger Sightings
Ranthambore has 10 safari zones. Your vehicle stays in the zone given to you for that shift, and zones are set by the Forest Department, not by visitors or operators.
Tigers are wild, so no one can promise a sighting. Even without a tiger, you can see deer, crocodiles, birds, old ruins and beautiful lakes inside the park.
Best Time to Visit Ranthambore
- October to March: pleasant weather and the most comfortable safaris.
- April to June: hot days, but animals often come to the water, which can help sightings.
- July to September: monsoon. Many zones close, so plan your trip for another season.
How Booking Works
Safari seats are booked through the Rajasthan Forest Department's official booking system, and popular dates fill up early, especially from October to March.
Please share your dates as early as possible, and always keep your ID with you, as it is checked at the park.
What to Wear and Bring
- Earth-toned clothes; avoid very bright colours.
- A warm jacket, hat and scarf for winter mornings.
- Sunglasses, sunscreen and water.
- A camera with a zoom lens, or binoculars.
- Your ID for the safari check.
